Have you heard the term ” Omo get inside ” loosely translated as ” Child go inside” ?
It is used to describe children who are sort of over sheltered by their parents.
Well we were called that a lot. It’s not like we were super rich or something but way back then we used to be comfortable. Anytime our parents would be out, my brothers and I have to stay in the house. They do not leave us by ourselves all the time. We either had a parent stay behind or a relative. If it was absolutely important that both parents have to leave us, there was someone to watch over us.
As we got older the leash was released bit by bit. On one of those days we got to the house before our parents. We knew they were going to stay out long for a long while but they usually give instructions on what and what not to do. We had books to read and summarize. Toys to play with. Cartoons to watch. Computer games too. It was a total package but nothing beats going out to play with our neighbors’ children of our own age. We don’t even get to see them on most weekdays.
This day sha, we came out. If it was going to be an outdoor play, our friends would take turns to watch the street for when our dad’s coming. He had this very popular Vespa motorcycle painted yellow. Mehn! that ride was the shiznit and I kid you not. It was second best to our popular rave of powerbikes but the Vespa will do and it did 藍
We were so into the play that when one of the kids shouted ” Your Dad’s coming! Run! ” it took moments for it to sink in. Ha! This was like a death sentence. If we were caught lasan, wo, it’s the end. I can’t begin to describe the judgement we would receive. You would read the Scriptures, Proverbs maybe and of course decide your fate. My Dad didn’t ” spare the rod ” literally.
We somehow found our way into the house and the bath before our Dad made it inside. When he saw us fully clothed, wet with uneven breaths. He asked what’s up. We told him we had water fight. He looked us over and said ” Good. “
Hollup sir! You mean this is good? We were not caught? There was no caught? We didn’t expperit neither did we believe it! We looked at each other in disbelief and scattered to our safe covens to change. This was new. We almost never got away with lies.
I strongly believe that our Dad knew but had other plans but * shrugs * e don pass 藍
PS: Dear Dad, how far? Do you remember this day?
